Sample Baby Registry
Hey Friends!
I've been asked for registry suggestions dozens of times from expecting friends and thought it would be helpful to share here. Next to most items, are notes on why they're are useful. As a first time mom, creating a registry for our baby shower was mind numbing. I hope this helps save some stress and is a good kickstart for your list! Keep in mind that some items/quantities will depend on personal preference and lifestyle, and I included links for you to see examples of things we like. Feel free to ask about any particular items in the comments section below. Congratulations on your bun in the oven!
Breathable Mesh Crib Bumper - as cute as they can be, our pediatrician recommended replacing our plush one out for mesh, once Julian started to roll. You're better off starting with a mesh bumper to begin with.
Mattress pad/cover for crib, waterproof.
Crib sheets - They spit up and diapers leak. You'll want at least 3.
Changing & station covers.
Onesies - Depending on the temperature in your house and the season, you'll want a combination of short sleeve & long sleeve. Get 10+... blow outs happen and you'll change them multiple times/day.
Sleep gown 3 - 5
Footed pajamas 3 - 5
Miracle Blanket Swaddle - I found this to be over the top in swaddling. Baby's arms are bundled tightly to their sides. Unless your baby is very fussy, you may not need to swaddle them rigidly like this.
Infant SwaddleMe - Happy medium for swaddling and easy to figure out.
Swaddle Blankets - Use these alone or as a mid layer if it's cold.
Sleep Sack - Wes loved Halo Sleep Sacks!
Infant bouncer seat. Ex; Fisher-Price Rainforest Bouncer - Our pediatrician recommended no more than 10 minutes at a time in here.
Play mat – we liked the Kick & Play. Also be sure to put plenty of toys in front of them during tummy time, so they work a little bit :)
Bath tub - We thought this one was too big when Jules was a newborn but it ended up being perfect after he was 2 months and older.
Bath towels - We really only used these when he was a newborn. Only get 2-3 if you don’t have soft thin towels. If your in-laws or parents kept your old ones, those will work fine, too.
Wash cloths - Our thick washcloths were rough on Julian’s skin and he reacted much better to the fine cloths meant for babies.
Baby soap - We like California Baby because it doesn't contain sulfates.
Diaper Ointment/Cream - Butt Paste worked well for us -- just make sure baby is 100% dry before you apply it to skin.
Diaper Cream Spatula - No need to get your hands funky -- it's like frosting baby's bottom!
Diaper pail/bags
Diapers - Babies will move up in size quickly, so you likely won't need more than 100 newborn diapers.
Wipes - We liked Babyganics because it's odorless and soft.
Baby brush/comb - Babies can get cradle cap (flaky dry scalp) and we got rid of Jules’s with this comb and some coconut oil.
Nail clippers - Our night nurse used to make house visits to clip baby’s nails. She swore by this one and it has been great since Jules was a newborn!
Infant Tylenol, infant saline drops, infant gas drops/Gripe Water.
Chest rub. Ex; Nature's Baby Organics Organic Ah-Choo!
Mother love nipple balm - Good to use while pumping or if your nipples are sore from nursing.
Bottles - Ex; Dr Brown's or Avent. Whether you plan on nursing exclusively or not, bottles are great to have just in case. Jules loved Dr. Brown's.
Bottle brush - OXO is great because it comes with a tip for cleaning nipples.
Bottle drying rack - Truth be told, we got this years before we had a baby to dry our wine glasses on. It's great and now we have a few!
Stain remover spray (7th Generation & Nature's Miracle are both fabulous) for accidents.
A rocking chair or glider with and ottoman or footrest I've tried a few (Amazon, Restoration Hardware, Lay-z-boy) and Lay-z-Boy was worth the investment!
Diaper changing station.
Backpack diaper bag - I found backpacks are easiest to handle with a squirmy little one.
Infant car seat, base and stroller - Baby Jogger BOB, UPPA baby, Stokke, Buggaboo -- so many good ones! Best to visit a shop that helps choose the best fit for your car & needs/lifestyle/size.
Babyzen Yoyo+ (travel stroller) - This is awesome once baby gets older -- folds up into carry-on size and easy to throw in the car for small trips.
Ergobaby 360 carrier - traveling, going on walks, shopping, etc. -- a wise purchase and useful for both mom and dad!
Baby monitor - Drop Cam (baby monitor) Motorola Baby Monitor is a good basic one and we ended up using the Nest Camera with the app. You'll need a dedicated smart device if you want to leave the app running.
Moses Basket - In the early stages, a moses basket is great to let baby sleep near you in any room around the house.
Baby Bjorn Bouncer and Toy attachment - This is perfect to have free hands for a minute -- Julian fell asleep in here while I ate & worked.
Travel Crib - We loved the Nuna!
Pack 'n' play topper - For extended stays, Jules sleeps soundly on this topper in his Nuna.
Pack 'n' play sheets - These are soft and good quality. Make sure the sheets smell like home when you bring them on travels.
Cosleeper - If you're co-sleeping in bed, the Dock a tot and the SwaddleMe works great -- my sister lent us her Cradle and Jules slept best in that as a newborn.
White Noise Machine - We discovered the Dohm white noise machine at a hotel where we stayed above the lounge during Art Basel. It works wonders -- babies sleep better with white noise AND IMO most of the digital ones suck. I even sleep better using it!
